Armesto says that history can never just be the history of humankind, because we are all connected to the earth even though we seemingly isolate ourselves from nature thinking we are not part of it. He says that everything we do creates history, writing this blog creates history, because what is present immediately becomes the past. His thoughts on what history is, seem reverent and even awed by the diversity and complexity of how history is created and experienced. He tries to create one big picture of the world and see how ideas, and events cross country boundries and time itself. It shows that he thinks that studying world history should not be separated or compartmentalized, like single pieces of a jigsaw puzzle, but as the entire picture, complete and one; so you can see how the different pieces interacted at that certain time. Armesto’s definition of history is more figurative and interpreted, while mine is more literal and not as creative. I still believe in my definition, but I also accept and understand his.
I agree entirely with what you are saying in this piece. The only thing that I can think of that would improve it is adding another person’s view of history, say, someone from our group’s, rather than just your own view. I really like the way you used a jigsaw puzzle to explain one of your thoughts. This was well written.
